Если удается заработать 100 тысяч долларов на доме, это считается удачей. Еще что-то сдают в аренду. Родные люди… И стартовый капитал, естественно, я дал.
Дружить начали ближе к окончанию, потом поступили в разные институты. Ира — в педагогический, я — в политехнический, отношения немножко остыли, а на последних курсах мы опять сошлись и решили пожениться. Это 1978 год. С тех пор почти не расставались, пока Ира с дочкой не уехали в Америку. Конечно, на две страны жить семьей трудно… — А зачем отправляли? Их не зря лихими называют… — Попадали в криминальные разборки? Везде было опасно, прилететь могло откуда угодно, с любой стороны, с самой неожиданной.
Мы уже жили на Малой Бронной, когда у нас в подъезде что-то взорвали, местные бандиты выясняли отношения с чеченцами. Обстановка была очень неспокойная, вот я и решил убрать родных от греха подальше… С коммуналкой на Бронной, кстати, тоже получилась смешная история. В Баку у меня была неплохая квартира, я обменял ее на маленькую двушку на Ленинском проспекте — буквально 28 квадратных метров над знаменитым тогда Домом мебели. А потом появился человек, который предложил расселить коммуналку на Патриарших прудах: "Араз, ты такой человек, должен жить там". Я приехал, посмотрел и согласился. Огромная квартира, а цена смехотворная. Рубли уже обесценивались, получалось порядка 10 тысяч долларов.
Пришел маклер, говорит: ты вселяешься в две комнаты, один сосед выезжает, другому даем наличными, третьим покупаем квартиру под расселение. Мы въехали. Я, жена, двое детей... В пятикомнатной коммуналке на 157 метров заняли две большие комнаты. А потом началась свистопляска с соседями. Маклер убеждал меня, что они скоро съедут, но те не торопились. В итоге я был вынужден дополнительно покупать квартиру для женщины с дочкой и малолетним внуком, который любил ездить по общему коридору на полном горшке, выплескивая его содержимое на пол… При этом соседка указала конкретный дом, где ей нужно жилье.
Потом я делал ремонт в купленной для нее квартире… Эпопея тянулась долго, в конце концов веселая семейка выехала. Не успели мы вздохнуть спокойно, как раздался звонок в дверь. Смотрю в глазок и вижу удостоверение сотрудника уголовного розыска. Заходят два молодых человека, показывают ордер на обыск. Оказалось, последний сосед-алкоголик, который, по словам маклера, никогда не жил в этой квартире, а был лишь прописан в ней, найден мертвым. Перепил какой-то гадости с приятелями. А у милиции возникли подозрения, не я ли отравил по-соседски, чтобы жилплощадью завладеть.
На беду, в той пустовавшей девятиметровой комнате я хранил деньги. В начале 90-х все расплачивались наличными, никто особо не доверял банкам. Думаю, сейчас товарищи из МУРа увидят коробки с кешем, и что им потом рассказывать? Сумма-то приличная, я с 1988 года занимался кооперативной деятельностью… В общем, говорю: "Ребята, может, сначала перекусим, а потом уже за работу?
