Gauthier absolutely loves to engage in the physical aspect of defending when his opponents have the puck along the boards. Improvements As with any prospect, there are areas of their game which they may look to improve on to boost their draft stock and likelihood of making it to the next level at some point in their career. Below are a couple of areas in which Gauthier may look to brush up on. Gauthier may look to be a little more selective with where he shoots the puck. He seems to be willing to get the puck on target from just about anywhere, but there are times when his accuracy is off.
He has a thick 6-foot-2 frame and can skate like an NHL player. With his size and speed he can overpower opponents to force turnovers or in how he attacks the net and it makes him an asset on the PK. Gauthier can create with his skating and skill, but his main offensive weapon is his shot. He can pick corners from distance with a powerful wrist shot. I see a potential very good top-six forward whether at center or the wing with a chance to pop and become a true top-of-the-lineup type. On the puck, he uses inside body positioning to get to the middle off the cycle or the rush. Off of it, he finishes his checks and looks to help his line get it back.

What does Gauthier bring to the table then? Cutter Gauthier is one of the better skaters in the class From a basic perspective, Gauthier is a strong skater. His straight-line speed is very good, and he has solid edgework, making him deceptive and slippery at times. His ability to change directions and complete tight turns without losing speed is a key trait to have, especially at his size. His lower body strength is evident, and thanks to his strong edges, has great crossovers that allows his first few steps to be strong. From a technical standpoint, Gauthier is solid. His ankle bend is solid, as he consistently keeps his knees over his toes when skating full speed. Also, Gauthier has strong stride length, fully extending his back leg and maximizing the power behind each stride, which also aids his acceleration. However, his knee bend needs work. Gauthier needs to get lower in his stride, bend his knees a bit more. While the power in his stride is solid, thanks to his lower-body strength, it could be better with better knee bend. His top speed also could improve, from really good to great. Gauthier certainly seems like he has solid potential as a skater. But it is a whole lot deeper than that. Gauthier is a dual-threat offensive player, with solid playmaking and goal-scoring abilities. Focusing on his playmaking abilities first, Gauthier is a very balanced passer. He has strong vision and passing accuracy, which he pairs really well.
That may be enough to make him their go-to centre in critical draws. Starting with their puck support. The more we can get that to them. Cleaner exits, cleaner entries. A lot of the play can go through many of those guys. It will be a big part of our success. We want to have the puck. I played with him at the NTDP too. Making plays with him. It is a lot of fun. That is a part of his game that is still developing. Getting used to these guys again. And there will be a few cuts so nobody wants to leave anything out there.
