Autodesk Revit 2024.1 Build 24.1.0.66 by m0nkrus (MULTi/RUS)
I was in the beta user group for this one. It is a cross between shaded and realistic. It shows the appearance asset texture but without global lighting, so the materials are a consistent color on all surfaces and at all angles. It is possible to have ambient and sun shadows on in this mode as shown in the examples below.

Sun settings on ribbon When running a solar study, the sun settings are now presented on the ribbon as shown below. Clicking the sun setting button opens the traditional sun settings dialog with the same settings. Another enhancement includes the ability to select much shorter time increment options.

Solar study now has shorter time increment options. Site tools Looking at the massing and site tab below, you will notice a lot has changed. The site tools represent the most significant change in Revit 2024 for architects, which is both exciting and a little scary!
We now have a toposolid command rather than a toposurface. As the name change implies, the ground is now represented by solid geometry rather than a 2D surface. This is the exciting part.
Missing from the ribbon below is the building pad command, which is the scary part — I will explain this in the next section. Figure 24. Comparing Revit 2024 site tools to previous versions.
Toposolid Replaces Toposurface Although the toposurface and building pads are no longer available, they are preserved when a model is updated to Revit 2024. Those elements can be modified and copied. You just cannot create new instances as the commands are gone.

To convert a toposurface, select it and follow the steps shown in Figure 26. Step 2 involves selecting a toposurface family type that can have several surface characteristics preset. Figure 26.
The steps to upgrade a toposurface to a toposolid. The toposurface is not deleted as this would delete the building pads which need to be recreated manually. Since there is no building pad tool, Autodesk recommends that an in-place mass set to cut the toposolid be created, as shown in Figure 27.
This provides a lot more options, like tunnels and sloped edges. The biggest challenge is that the workflow is not as intuitive for the average Revit user, in my opinion. Figure 27.
The suggested replacement for the building pad tool is an in-place mass void. Sub-regions are automatically converted to sub-divisions. Figure 28 shows the various type settings for this new element.
Notice two things. First, the toposolid is fundamentally based on the floor element. Second, the contour settings are now set per object type rather than globally.

Energy analysis model created based on the current view. These models are represented within Revit as lightweight geometry and can be easily navigated. Sub-elements can be selected, and their properties are listed in the Properties palette. If you were paying close attention just now, you might have connected the dots that a Revit model can be linked in as a lightweight model.
This might be helpful with specific consultant models. Here is the big news, with this new feature … not only can you link in a Revit model, but you can link different versions of Revit models! For example, your Revit 2024 model can link in a Revit 2022 model without needing to upgrade the 2022 model. This is a brave new world.

If you have a laptop, for example, with a smaller SSD C: drive, and a larger D: drive, there was no way to point the local BIM 360 storage to the more spacious D: drive. This could easily cause the C: drive to fill up if you worked on several BIM 360 projects or just one mega project.

This year, we lose some sample projects and gain a new template and sample project. New Imperial Template There is a new multi-discipline template. Previously there were only discipline-specific and systems i. Due to the settings and loaded families required by specific commands and workflows, some tools in Revit would not work correctly depending on which template you started from.
With the new all-discipline template, this problem can be avoided. Figure 5. The new imperial template supporting all disciplines. New Sample Model There is a new robust set of sample models which can be used to explore Revit features and model organization.
It includes seven linked models and contains phasing and design options. There is even a point cloud file that can be downloaded separately. One slight downside related to this is that the old sample models are no longer included. So, while this new sample model is a great new resource for those learning Revit, I will miss the easy access to the lightweight residential sample model to open quickly for troubleshooting.

Platform There are several new features in Revit 2024 that are not discipline specific. User Interface The user interface has a number of changes. Most of the icons have been refreshed in support of a new dark theme option. The project browser is also completely updated and now includes a search option at the top.

When first used, the canvas area is also set to a dark theme. This can be adjusted back to a light color while still in the dark theme if desired. Figure 9. The new dark theme for the UI and palettes.
You can link directly to views from Autodesk Docs without downloading the file to a local resource. Views linked from Autodesk Docs use permissions from the Autodesk Docs account to manage access, making it easier to use the collaboration workflow when IP protection is important. Snap Points for Coordination Models Use snap points to easily model in context, to measure between two references based on the coordination model points, or to better position the coordination model. To set alignment options for free form rebar sets, use the in-canvas toggle or, in the Properties palette for the structural rebar, use the Bar Alignment parameter.
Revit now offers intervals of 15, 30, 45, and 60 seconds, which allows you to analyze shadows with greater accuracy.
In addition, you can drag the Sun along its path in Perspective mode instead of using the Orthographic mode. These models are lightweight and elements can be selected. You can read out the information from the selected element in the Properties Browser. One of the main benefits is the capability to link models from previous versions of Revit without upgrading them. This feature is very useful when collaborating with other stakeholders who are working with older model versions.
Once you have linked Coordination Models, you can manage these files in the Coordination Model tab located in the Manage Links menu. As you can see in the example below, every surface of the floor has been aligned individually with the same pattern. To reset the pattern, you can use the Entire Surface again. This style can be described as a hybrid mode between Consistent Colors and Realistic. It will show textures like in the Realistic mode but without the global lights which sometimes can be a little buggy on floorplans.
You can use the Texture style for presentation in 3D views, or floor planners, for example. However, Revit 2024 has introduced its own Color Book.

The option to adjust the canvas color in dark theme mode. Revit Macro Security Macros are now disabled by default for enhanced security, as shown in the Revit Options dialog below. Resize All Schedule Rows When a schedule on a sheet is selected, there are now a few options in the Properties Palette to control the row height and rotation on the sheet. Schedule Revision Clouds Revision clouds can now be scheduled.
This includes the ability to schedule related information such as the sheet or view name that the cloud is placed on. Figure 13. Revision clouds can now be scheduled. Open Sheet Directly from View If a view is placed on a sheet, that sheet can now be opened quickly via right-clicking within the view and selecting Open Sheet as shown here. Figure 14. Right-click in a view to open the sheet it is placed on quickly. Place Multiple Views and Schedules Multiple selected views and schedules can be dragged from the Project Browser onto a sheet. These are spaced out sufficiently so they do not overlap, but they likely require manual adjustment once placed. It is also possible to drag views from one sheet to another within the Project Browser as shown in Figure 16, in which case the views are positioned in the same location. Figure 15.

Resizable Dialogs There are over 20 existing dialog boxes that have been enhanced to allow resizing. Figure 18. Example of a dialog enhanced to be resizable. Sorting of Project Parameters in Properties Project parameters are now sorted alphanumerically in the instance and type properties dialogs. Family parameters are unchanged from previous behavior.
Architectural The architectural discipline has several new features and will make a lot of architects and designers happy. Of course, we will all have wishlist items not found in the update. Be sure to head to the Revit Ideas site and make sure you post or vote for enhancements you want. Here is an example of a much needed enhancement to the Bind Revit Link Revit Idea that would maintain phases — most do not realize that all phase settings are lost when you bind a Revit link until they need to do it!

Поскольку инструмента для создания строительных площадок нет, Autodesk рекомендует создать набор массы на месте для разрезания топосолида, как показано на рисунке 27. Это дает гораздо больше возможностей, например, туннели и наклонные края. Самая большая проблема заключается в том, что рабочий процесс, на мой взгляд, не так интуитивно понятен обычному пользователю Revit. Рисунок 27. На рисунке 28 показаны различные настройки типа для этого нового элемента.
Обратите внимание на две вещи. Во-первых, в основе топосолида лежит элемент пола. Во-вторых, настройки контура теперь задаются для каждого типа объекта, а не глобально. Рисунок 28. Свойства топосолида. Зная, что этот элемент по сути является усовершенствованным элементом пола, обратите внимание, что применение материалов немного странно. В примере, показанном на рисунке 27, мне пришлось выбрать материал Earth, чтобы материал и узор были земляными. Затем мне нужно было нарисовать на поверхности материал травы. Сложность рисования заключается в том, что поверхность состоит из нескольких граней, и для закрашивания всей поверхности требуется несколько резцов. Toposolid - рабочий процесс создания Топосолид создается аналогично элементу пола.
Вы начинаете с наброска периметра определяемой поверхности, а затем завершаете режим создания. This new feature works like any other system family, such as floor, roof, etc. It is not advisable to do this as it will likely be deleted in the future. As mentioned, Toposolid works like any other system family and can be created out of different layers with thickness and different materials. The new template contains six pre-made Toposolids with varying layers, giving you examples of how to create, roads, grassland, jetty, and lakes. While using the new Toposolid, you can cut this solid with other elements, such as Walls, Floors, etc. As a result, the graphics inside the view will now show correctly. This method can be more complex and time-consuming, but allows you to create any shape you want.
Hopefully, we will get a better tool in the future. You can find the Sun settings in the ribbon on the right side. The settings dialog still looks the same as the earlier Revit versions, a minor improvement has been made to the Time Interval feature, which now offers additional increments. В Revit 2023 в настройке фильтров спецификаций добавилась опция фильтрации данных для элементов, которые расположены на листе со спецификацией.

Reduce errors and omissions in your document sets. For those of us who used to work in AutoCAD, not having a dark theme in Revit always took a while to get used to. We finally have a dark theme in Revit and it does very much seem worth the wait. It has several options to really customize it.
Thus, real-time rendering provided by D5 Render comes in handy for an instant preview of design projects. It has a livesync plugin to connect with Revit 2024 so that designers can see their projects rendered on the fly. Animation: Walkthrough animations provide a virtual tour of the building, allowing viewers to experience the space from a first-person perspective and get a sense of its scale, layout, and functionality. Revit designers can easily make an animation for their projects, delivering design ideas more effectively to clients.
From here you can preview usage data and the most used commands, and find out how to optimize workflows. The icons look more modern.

The sample project includes seven Revit files architectural, structural, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, existing facades, site and context. Resizable dialogs. Dialog windows can be resized. Project parameters are sorted alphabetically. You can add prefix to the parameter name to sort it as you want. In Revit 2023, the project parameters are sorted chronologically. Improved visualization Improved integration with Twinmotion. Auto Sync with Twinmotion provides a live link between Revit and Twinmotion. New visual style: Textures. This visual style displays material textures consistently, without lighting effects. Using this visual style you can easily test textures prior to rendering.
These two commands, from the right-click menu, are related to views.

Мало того, что вы в принципе работаете в этой системе, так ещё теперь можете и выбирать папку, куда сохранять кэш от облачных моделей. Тёмная тема, новые иконки и интерфейс Не будем далеко уходить. В этом же окошке ещё одна новая боковая вкладка — «Цвета». Раньше эти настройки были в меню «Графика», но теперь пользователей решили побаловать косметикой, поэтому вынесли в отдельное меню. В нём можно выбрать тёмную тему интерфейса и схему рабочей области. Интерфейс — это лента, окно свойств и диспетчер проекта. Всё, никакие другие окна свой цвет не поменяли, только перечисленные элементы.
Рабочая область — это та часть окна, где мы моделируем и оформляем чертежи. По сути тут просто меняется фон рабочего пространства на тёмный, это можно было и самим сделать раньше. Там же поменяли имена для каскадного и мозаичного расположения окон, теперь они называются «Вкладки» и «Плитки». Хорошо сделали. Тёмная тема пока половинчатая, по нормальному все окна нужно было сделать тёмными. Инструменты для рисования тоже какие-то слишком тонкие и вялые. Из того, что понравилось — кнопочки внизу экрана стоят более разреженно, что упрощает их восприятие и нажатие по ним.
Специально для сравнения выровнял оба набора кнопок по кнопке детализации. Также в диспетчере появился поиск — удобно. Порядок прорисовки 2Д элементов Не проверял, но разработчики обещают, что теперь аннотации и элементы узлов в семействах будут работать стабильнее при отображении в проекте, редакторе семейств и на печати. То есть будет проще работать с УГО — условными графическими обозначениями. Раньше была проблема, что некоторые аннотации в проекте и при печати отображались некорректно: закрывали объекты или наоборот, перекрывались.
Теперь должно быть стабильнее, как в редакторе — так и в проекте и на печати. Редко сталкивался с этим, но попробовал быстро накидать, вроде работает, но не совсем корректно. Открыл первое попавшееся семейство — точки подключения умывальника.

Here is an example of a much needed enhancement to the Bind Revit Link Revit Idea that would maintain phases — most do not realize that all phase settings are lost when you bind a Revit link until they need to do it! Textures View Style Revit has a new view style called Textures. I was in the beta user group for this one. It is a cross between shaded and realistic. It shows the appearance asset texture but without global lighting, so the materials are a consistent color on all surfaces and at all angles. It is possible to have ambient and sun shadows on in this mode as shown in the examples below.

Sun settings on ribbon When running a solar study, the sun settings are now presented on the ribbon as shown below. Clicking the sun setting button opens the traditional sun settings dialog with the same settings. Another enhancement includes the ability to select much shorter time increment options. Figure 22.

Site tools Looking at the massing and site tab below, you will notice a lot has changed. The site tools represent the most significant change in Revit 2024 for architects, which is both exciting and a little scary! We now have a toposolid command rather than a toposurface. As the name change implies, the ground is now represented by solid geometry rather than a 2D surface. This is the exciting part. Missing from the ribbon below is the building pad command, which is the scary part — I will explain this in the next section. Figure 24.

Toposolid Replaces Toposurface Although the toposurface and building pads are no longer available, they are preserved when a model is updated to Revit 2024. Those elements can be modified and copied. You just cannot create new instances as the commands are gone. Figure 25 shows a toposurface and building pad after an initial model upgrade. Figure 25. Step 2 involves selecting a toposurface family type that can have several surface characteristics preset. Figure 26.
The steps to upgrade a toposurface to a toposolid. The toposurface is not deleted as this would delete the building pads which need to be recreated manually. Since there is no building pad tool, Autodesk recommends that an in-place mass set to cut the toposolid be created, as shown in Figure 27. This provides a lot more options, like tunnels and sloped edges. The biggest challenge is that the workflow is not as intuitive for the average Revit user, in my opinion. Figure 27. The suggested replacement for the building pad tool is an in-place mass void. Sub-regions are automatically converted to sub-divisions. Figure 28 shows the various type settings for this new element. Notice two things.
Improved concrete detailing tools Structural engineers and rebar detailers have new capabilities for creating, scheduling, and documenting rebar. Use the new bar bending details to: Create reinforcement drawings and schedules with detailed fabrication instructions. With this new tool in Revit, when the model changes, the details adapt along with it. Add and customize rebar bending details so that your views and sheets respect your typical practice.
Reduce errors and omissions in your document sets. For those of us who used to work in AutoCAD, not having a dark theme in Revit always took a while to get used to. We finally have a dark theme in Revit and it does very much seem worth the wait. It has several options to really customize it.
