He can attack the offensive zone in a myriad of ways, usually combining his larger frame and quick feet to beat a defender out wide, or he can cut into the middle of the ice by stickhandling around the defending forwards and drawing opponents onto his person, allowing his teammates to enter the zone and set up. There are times where he will smother the opposition with a great active stick, and a quickly-closing gap between the opponent and himself. Or it allows him to step closer to the net for a shot attempt. One such example led to a goal against while on the penalty kill. Gauthier did not pressure the puck carrier along the half wall, and that player stepped into his shot. Gauthier is such a promising player. He plays a fairly complete game in all three zones, with some minor things to work on throughout his game.

Well, Konecny played 70 games his rookie season, popped in 11 goals and then went on to score 24 goals in each of the next three seasons during ages 20-22. Meanwhile, Provorov played in all 82 games during that 2016-17 campaign and, with the exception of a brief forced absence during the COVID pandemic, has played in all 532 career games the Flyers have had on their schedule. Suffice to say, when training camp opens in September, there are going to be a lot of eyes trained on Gauthier who registered 37 points in 32 games for BC his freshman year to see if the timeline to a professional contract might be shortened a bit sooner than expected.
