Jones and Briere should be given a fair chance to see what they can accomplish.
As the NCAA schedule comes to a close, top prospects can turn pro and get their feet wet in the NHL before setting in for an offseason of training and development. That is, if they decide to leave the college ranks.
Gauthier needs to get lower in his stride, bend his knees a bit more. While the power in his stride is solid, thanks to his lower-body strength, it could be better with better knee bend. His top speed also could improve, from really good to great. Gauthier certainly seems like he has solid potential as a skater. But it is a whole lot deeper than that. Gauthier is a dual-threat offensive player, with solid playmaking and goal-scoring abilities. Focusing on his playmaking abilities first, Gauthier is a very balanced passer. He has strong vision and passing accuracy, which he pairs really well. Not to mention, he has solid stickhandling, which allows him to create space for himself to buy time for a play to develop. Across those three games, Gauthier attempted 51 total passes in the offensive zone, and he completed 76. Of those pass attempts, 15. His accuracy in both high-danger 62. His high-danger pass completion was especially good, finishing well above the average of 48. Additionally, Gauthier finds soft spots in coverages to open himself up for teammates to set him up in high-danger. He loves going to the net-front and posing a threat there as well, cleaning up rebounds and getting deflections. Looking at his shot, he has a strong and quick release. Looking at his shooting stats over those tracked games, he fired 23 total shots, with 15 of them hitting the net 65. Of those shots, 39. It also helps that 88. What do these numbers tell us? These numbers tell us that Cutter Gauthier is a very smart forward that can beat teams in multiple ways, without being predictable.
However, after the team met with him following his season last year with Boston College to discuss his development, Gauthier said he did not want to play for the Flyers. Gauthier said it was a personal decision for him not to play in Philadelphia. But this is not the first time a player has told the team that drafted him that he did not want to sign with the club. It is just the first time it has happened to the Flyersn. NHL history is replete with players who have exercised their right not to play for a particular club after they were drafted.
Detroit Red Wings Mock Draft: Fixing the Top Six
I feel like I could play in the National Hockey League tomorrow, but my decision to come back for another year was lots of time and hours talking to family, talking to coaches and all that stuff for the best decision for me. Naturally, any front office in any organization will want to have time with their top prospect in their building to get a closer look. After drafting Matvei Michkov, the Flyers also probably want to see whether Cutter Gauthier serves the team best as a left wing or as a center. Versatility is important, but consistency is going to matter the most when it comes to how Philly will construct their roster going forward.
MTL passed. They had little to no leverage, but still managed to acquire a top four defenceman and a solid draft pick. As for Gauthier, he certainly possesses the potential to become a dominant forward.
Gauthier has scored 13 goals and 10 assists for Boston College, trailing only Gabe Perreault for the team lead in scoring.
Which one has a reasonable probability of becoming a 1A? Well, for starters, the assumption that Ivan Fedotov is going to be able to come over to North America anytime in the near future is an extremely large one. Where would he, Ersson and Alexei Kolosov stand?
Ersson would have a clear leg up on his competition. Now, even if he comes over in 2023-24, he has to make up for lost time against Ersson. That means that Ersson will get at least a couple years to prove he can be an NHL backup or even a 1A before Kolosov even realistically enters the picture. Plus, Ersson looks like a really good young goalie.
Really interesting question. So I do believe the underlying theory behind your idea has merit. My general belief with player development is that if a player is ready for the next level, call him up. After all, there will be tricks and maneuvers that work at the collegiate level but will fail against pros.
The Flyers can keep an eye on him at Boston College, but not to the degree that they can in the pros, whether in Lehigh Valley or with the Flyers.
Remember Eric Lindros and the Quebec Nordiques? The Flyers and the New York Rangers were both interested. Ultimately, the Flyers won the trade through arbitration. In modern NHL, college players have also refused to sign with certain teams. Adam Fox, now with the New York Rangers, did it twice.
