She was an extraordinary woman whose great love of the theatre, teaching and acting was surpassed only by her deep love for her family. She made her Broadway debut in 1947 in the Robinson Jeffers adaptation of Medea. In 2010, she received the prestigious Tony Lifetime Achievement Award.
