В начале игры мир магии разделён на бесхозные части. Задача игроков стать владельцами всех частей магического мира. Игроки выбирают фишки здесь выбирать можно между Гарри, Роном, Гермионой и Дамблдором , получают на руки по полторы тысячи Магических галлеонов, становятся на старт и поочерёдно ходят на число ходов, выпавшее на кубиках. Цель игры — сделать всех противников банкротами, скупая Магическую собственность и собирая с них ренту. Сделав полный круг по полю, игрок получает от банка Гринготтс 200 Магических Галеонов, а попав на клетку «Аренда банковской ячейки» или «Налог министерства магии» расстаётся с частью магического капитала. А клетка с Дементором отправляет в Азкабан, из которого можно выбраться несколкими способами — но об этом вы уже прочтёте в правилах. Магические геллеоны есть разного номинала: 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 и 500 галеонов, и на них изображены различные персонажи Гарри Поттера Хагрид, Рон, Гермиона, Минерва Макгонагалл, Северус Снейп, Альбус Дамблдор и сам Гарри — у него, кстати, самый большой номинал в 500 магических галлеонов В набор также входят кубики, относительно них есть несколько правил: если игрок выбросит дубль, то делает ещё один ход, но если делает 3 дубля подряд, то попадает в Азкабан.
