She is clearly happy living in the human world. Sunset is living a much better life than the one she had before in Equestria. In addition to having loving friends she has also earned the respect of Canterlot High. The important thing to take away from all of this is that, at the moment, Sunset Shimmer has the closest thing that she ever had to a loving family.

That is the question. Where do I stand on this?
Personally, I believe that Sunset should not return to Equestria. I will try my hardest to keep my own preferences out of this discussion so that I may try to see what the next Equestria Girls film has in store for our subject. Expect a lot of speculation. The rest of the film is his journey to accomplish this. Along the way he makes friends, falls in love, and ultimately saves the world. By saving the world he gets the status of a god and earns the right to return to what he believes is his home. In the final scenes, however, he realizes that living on Mount Olympus means he can no longer be with his friends or the woman he fell in love with. He returns to his friends and supposedly lives a happy life. Now you may be asking yourself what this has to do with our bacon haired pony turned human. She says that she misses the magic, quests, and the mythical beasts back in Equestria.
Sunset realizes that she has a good life in the human world but she still feels out of place. Hercules is having a rough time fitting into human society due to his strength but he is still happy because he is loved by his adopted parents. Both Sunset Shimmer and Hercules know that there is something greater out there waiting for them. What I took away from the deleted scene is the notion that Sunset Shimmer is going through an internal struggle. Looking back at the Friendship Games there is a scene that may clue one in on how Sunset is fitting in with the human world. All the potential problems that Sunset lists off to Rainbow Dash pertain to Equestria and magic. This would only make her feel like even more of an outsider.
