Louis was released. Their fortunes varied - Garry felt he played better than on Day 1, but blundered a piece as he lost two games to Veselin Topalov, while Peter snatched a win to level the match score against Hikaru Nakamura. The former World Champion had overlooked that in Chess960 the white king could flee all the way to c1 in a single move. The game turned into a double-edged thriller, though White was always leading the race and by move 42 Veselin actually had mate-in-2! Rb5 either, but until a recent rule change he might have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory! The final move of the game was the winning 48. This time 37…Rf5?? Bb1 39.
We can be sure Garry will continue to put up a fight — on Wednesday he almost pushed his opponent out of camera shot as he physically pressed the table in search of good moves! Nakamura 6 - 6 Svidler Nakamura prepared with Team USA photo: Lennart Ootes, official website This is the only match where the scores are level, and the scoreline reflects the neck-and-neck battle so far. I think - it sounds funny to even say those words - but I think Hikaru thoroughly outprepared me today!
It is is now a luxury resort located on a 75-hectare property.

The resort is known for its stunning architecture and its idyllic location by the sea. It is a perfect venue for a chess tournament as it provides a quiet and inspiring environment. Today, the Weissenhaus Resort is one of the most exclusive hideaway hotels with a spa in Germany.

Position 901 In the above diagram, White can actually castle on move one by simply switching the king on f1 and the rook on g1! The biggest appeal of Fischer Random is the fact that opening knowledge no longer becomes a major factor in the game. We see the top grandmasters relying on deep home preparation and opening memorization, with games sometimes ending in positions that they had studied before the game even started. In this regard, Chess960 serves as the great equalizer where both players are on their own from move one. For those of you who are unfamiliar with top level chess, defeating Magnus Carlsen, let alone with a crushing score, is practically unheard of in regular chess.
While Chess960 has gained more popularity and endorsement from grandmasters in recent years, most tournaments still remain exclusive to the chess elite.

I think - it sounds funny to even say those words - but I think Hikaru thoroughly outprepared me today! He had ideas where I had none, frankly, and I think he got more promising positions with White and had no problems with Black. Svidler had the advantage, then briefly gave Nakamura the chance to turn the tables, before closing in for the kill: As Peter explained: In this final game it was a mess and I played this 47…g6 move, which I thought was very, very beautiful. Ding had been unable to play throughout much of the COVID-19 pandemic , however, and had to play a number of hastily arranged matches to reach the minimum FIDE activity requirements to secure his place in the tournament. Nepomniachtchi won the Candidates, but Ding secured second place by beating Hikaru Nakamura in a must-win final-round game. Carlsen then relinquished his title, allowing Ding to play for the title despite not winning the Candidates. Nepomniachtchi took the lead three times during the match, but Ding evened the score each time, forcing a tiebreak. After three draws in the rapid tiebreaks, Ding won the fourth game to take the championship. To keep the title, Carlsen was periodically required to defend it in a championship match against a challenger, determined by a Candidates Tournament.
