The shortcut here would have been to just change the color of 75277, the Boba Fett helmet, but we are driven by the idea that LEGO elements offer an infinite number of possibilities, so we continue the search for new ways to hopefully take it a step further. If you look closely at reference images, you will notice that the helmet is slightly wider at the base, and the sides slope gently inwards. This feature is addressed in the Mandalorian helmet. Not even Darth Vader has glowing eyes! While the rest of the model was mostly another exercise in getting the shape right, designing the eyes and the surrounding area was the most fun for me!
To get the menacing appearance of the original droids right I had to tilt down the front of the head -- like a bull lowering its head, ready to attack. It was important to catch the menacing aura of the dark troopers, and the hinge proved to be the key element.
Released 3 years after the first version, this one adds extra printing to the entire Minifigure. The legs have some additional printing at the knees to give it a bit more of an interesting look, and the chest has a large section spreading from the Arc reactor to the shoulders.
It has a cleaner look, and as such the Minifigure pares back the printing to keep things relatively sparse. The detailing we get is solid and accurate to the movie version we see in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This is another LEGO Minifigure where we get the usual transparent blue bricks as the rocket boosters. It has all the usual details and print applications covering it and even has some really nicely defined red and gold paneling down either side of the stomach.
The only issue we can see is that while the Iron Man in the movie has a fully exposed Arc reactor, the Minifigure has half a reactor. It is fairly accurate to the suit we see on screen. However, they add more gold highlights on the torso and leg pieces. Perhaps this is because they used earlier concept art to base their prints on, or perhaps they just wanted to make the Minifigure look a little more interesting.
It has a great-looking triangular Arc reactor printed in the center of the torso piece, and we like that LEGO gave it space to breathe, leaving the detailing towards the bottom of the torso and onto the legs. This Iron Man Minifigure comes complete with the wing accessories that he battles with.
Will they be important??? You guys, they drove me so crazy. Thanos is in his armor here as well, just like on the Empire Magazine cover revealed yesterday, and the leaked Marvel Legends BAF going around right now Google it, its around. A harness goes around his neck and hangs on the back of the torso, and you simply assemble and clip the four arms to the harness. It looks neat and even has a blaster effect to add to the action shots. One issue is that the wings have stickers that need to be applied to them instead of the details being printed on. Some people might not mind this, while others will take issue with the stickers. Because the wings need to be assembled, put together, and clipped to the backpack section, this Minifigure has a pretty high piece count, with 38 individual pieces needed to construct him. So special is this Minifigure that we got it in not one but two separate sets!
It would have made this Minifigure extra special if they could have printed some tiny infinity stones onto the right hand.
Both reveals would incite cheering in theaters everywhere. Could time travel or flashbacks take us back to his Hall of Armor for an important story line?
It looks as though the past and present might collide via time travel magic.
