We all adore her. Instead of a private school, Paul sent his kids to the local comprehensive. But the real world was never very far away. That totally knocked dad for six. My dad had a normal upbringing and I think he wanted to introduce a normal upbringing to us too.
It made me a little self-conscious and a little introverted because I was the focus of attention. I got the same thing as everyone gets really, most kids get bullied a little bit. I got jokey nicknames like Macaroni. Then I had good nicknames like Car — from McCartney.
Like his dad, James taught himself to play the guitar and piano, and he began writing songs at an early age. Even Dad found it hard living up to the Beatles.
He began playing music when his father gave him a Fender Stratocaster at age nine.
The guitar had previously been owned by Carl Perkins. He continued his education with a tutor while on the road. In 1993, at age 16, while surfing with friends, he was swept out to sea.
The coast guard was called, his family rushed to the site, but he emerged safe on his own 40 minutes later. Later that year, he graduated from Bexhill College , near his home in East Sussex, where he pursued studies in A-level Art and Sculpture.
