‘Iron Claw’ director Sean Durkin was ‘haunted’ by film’s real-life wrestling tragedy
Durkin has served as a testifying expert on damages and liability in class action, antitrust, patent, and unfair competition cases and has testified before the International Trade Commission and the Illinois Commerce Commission. He has worked on cases involving price fixing, quantity restrictions, and non-compete agreements. Durkin has consulted on a variety of merger cases for government agencies in the US and Canada and also for merging parties in both horizontal and vertical mergers.
Durkin has served as a testifying expert on damages and liability in class action, antitrust, patent, and unfair competition cases and has testified before the International Trade Commission and the Illinois Commerce Commission. He has worked on cases involving price fixing, quantity restrictions, and non-compete agreements.
You need to be. It was just such a firm nudge, you know? This film is like a heavyweight fight between them. The work itself is all that matters. But these things that follow are really important to giving the film life. He likes interacting with the community, audience members, and other filmmakers, though it leaves room for nasty comments that tend to stick with him. He asks me what I thought of The Nest, and what instincts I had for who the story belongs to. These questions feel relayed with genuine interest—he takes feedback and criticism with a bit of personal strain and potency. I saw that there was not a lot of peace involved in that. My life was quite tumultuous. And I saw that perhaps a steadier life would be more successful regardless of financial outcome. All those people made a big impact on me, but they were more of the daily life things as opposed to an idea of success.

It was great. I was really excited when we first went there. I went down there and we walked on the quayside and all the way along the water to The Sportsman. The pub! My dad had six brothers, too. And so there was some connection I made there.
What was your experience of filming Southcliffe in Faversham and Seasalter? It was great. I was really excited when we first went there. And Mike was an incredible athlete as well. So there was just a bit more of that with Chris. When you told Kevin that you had to cut Chris from the movie, how did he react? Coming into it as a fan, I love the guy. At that point, I had made the decision about Chris, and there was other stuff, too. David had a daughter that died. Kerry had a family.
So I started talking to Kevin when we were in prep and had an ongoing conversation while we were shooting and told him about the story, told him what we were focusing on, and we had a really good communication. Then, finally, the week before showing him the movie, we did a big family Zoom. I wanted to tell them, okay, these are some of the hardest decisions I made, and this is why. I told him about Chris. The message that he lives by is that no matter what, even on your darkest day, you keep fighting, life is worth it. I think he just hoped the movie would be that. So when I told him about Chris and some of the other cuts, he was just totally supportive.
If he would have disagreed did he have any power to stop it? I just did my best to communicate with them and build the relationship and talk them through everything. When writing this, you had so much to work with, did you ever consider making it a series? The writing process is long. Do we try to look at a limited series or something? But, ultimately, I think when I started writing this I felt like it was a movie. Sometimes I just feel that.
Television was still pretty daring at that point.

They know their blocking. When you win or when you lose. SHAPIRO: So if we could talk thematically for a minute, to me, this movie seems partly to be a morality tale about the poison that comes from combining toxic masculinity and show business.

Не тот фильм назвали «Теснотой». При этом Дуркин превосходно владеет именно профессией и ее формулами. Режиссер, который умет удивить монтажными склейками — не часто такое сегодня встречается.
