The season will also include the 12th edition of the Sikka Art and Design Festival, highlighting visual arts and local and regional artistic innovations from 23 February to 3 March 2024, in Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood, with distinctive artworks by Emirati and resident artists and various entertainment and musical performances, workshops, and talks. Throughout February and March, Al Quoz Creative Zone and Alserkal Avenue will host a series of cultural and creative events, including art exhibitions, discussions, and diverse experiences. From March 4 to 8, the fourth edition of the Dubai Festival for School Theatre, organised by Dubai Culture, will show the creativity of school students.
В целом, сама ярмарка про новый межкультурный диалог то ли с глобальным Югом, как про это пишут кураторы и арт-директор ярмарки, то ли с просто другим Югом как представляется мне. Юг здесь такая большая метафора для новых галерей, свежих идей из более чем 40 стран мира и более 400 художников.
Уже знакомые работы Саида Атабекова из серии «Молитва тысяч всадников» представляет нам момент молитвы всадников перед игрой Кокпар. Также в рамках этой выставки была проведена дискуссия «Коломбо — Алматы», которую модерировала Кристиана Бонин. Ни на выставке, ни на панельной дискуссии не были представлены художники шестидесятники из Алматы или арт-сцена Алматы. Что заставляет задуматься над целым комплексом вопросов: почему казахстанская арт-аналитика не смогла подготовиться к такому фокусу выставки? В своем выступлении художественный директор ярмарки Пабло Дель Валь рассказал, что основная тема выставки строится вокруг понятий «надежда», «хилинг», опыта мигранта и желания продемонстрировать различный культурный ландшафт, в особенности стран Латинской Америки, Ближнего востока и стран Юго-Восточной Азии.
Конечно, это еще и обусловлено культурными и экономическими связями арабских стран с перечисленными странами. Вся программа на Art Dubai была нацелена на межкультурный диалог о Юге, который вот уже несколько лет все громче и громче становится темой мировой повестки на различных мероприятиях. Если раньше говорили о монополярности или биполярности мирового ландшафта, сегодня выставка, предоставляя голос галереям, чьи голоса не вписаны в западную повестку, дает ресурс и правомочность говорить о тренде на объединяющийся Юг. Throughout February and March, Al Quoz Creative Zone and Alserkal Avenue will host a series of cultural and creative events, including art exhibitions, discussions, and diverse experiences. From March 4 to 8, the fourth edition of the Dubai Festival for School Theatre, organised by Dubai Culture, will show the creativity of school students. It allows visitors to witness contemporary and international art, along with workshops and discussions led by experts and artists. This edition of the exhibition involves the participation of over 100 galleries across its four sections: Contemporary, Modern, Bawwaba, and Art Dubai Digital.

Departing from the rich geological formation of his West Sumatra locale, his work delves into the profound realms of natural experiences and emotional landscapes, creating a raw and evocative visual language. Singapore-based Jane Lee is recognised for her wall-based works that blur the lines between two-dimensional and three-dimensional, with the core of her practice challenging the boundaries of painting. In Art Dubai 2024, she will unveil two new pieces from her most recent series.
Indonesia-based Rudi Mantofani adopts a more conceptual approach, often blurring boundaries between painting and sculpture. Their work challenges perceptions, re-seeing poetry in the mundane, re-examining Western art history icons, and translating complex socio-political themes into intimate aesthetic visions. Through surreal, hyperrealist paintings, Mantofani responds to the deeper, complex meanings behind maps and countries and our understanding of a global world.
After establishing a thriving career in New York, Bickerton moved to Indonesia, where he observed the transformation of a remote island to an international tourist destination. His iconic shark sculptures that Gajah Gallery presents in Art Dubai evoke the power inherent in natural creatures. Despite the challenges this year, it was impressive to see such a diverse collection of international artists present and be part of this event. Most importantly I felt safe as a visitor and the precautions taken by the organisers really helped.
