Charles got close to Felix and accompanied him, which helped him get close to high society life in Paris after he was paroled. He lived two different lives, one with the people of high society and the other in the Parisian underworld. The day Charles proposed Compagnon to marry him, Charles was arrested on charges of car theft and sent to Poissy prison.
