That bumped out Kole Lind and Henri Jokiharju. Again no goalies are projected in the first round either. No change at the top as the top two spots still belong to Nolan Patrick and Nico Hischier.
Thinks he is as good or possibly better than Heiskanen. As one of the older players in the draft and already adjusted to N. He is the kind of defenseman you win Championships with.
Heiskanen is significantly better defensively, playing 25-plus minutes in both of his playoff campaigns. He is incredibly efficient at stunting offense with his body and stick. The Stars will be content having picked Heiskanen third. He is a terrific playmaker — he ranked 10th in assists-per-60 last season — and his tireless work ethic makes him difficult to play against. He never stops competing, winning pucks and generating chances for his teammates. He has shown some flair this season, too. Passing by Robert Thomas has been so nice this season pic. He has an elusive release and picks corners with ease. He should feast on weak matchups as a second-line center this year. In his final year of junior, he carried the Guelph Storm to the Memorial Cup with 42 points in 24 playoff games. In the NHL, he has continued to produce at an impressive rate and has shown he can run a powerplay. Some have given up on him, but if he remains healthy he can still reach his potential. His frame means he can win pick battles and maintain possession, and his quick hands and creativity mean he can create chances. He is just as good as a setup man or a finisher. If he can round out his game and start to make the simple plays more consistently, he may end up higher on this list. However, the players above him have been more effective thus far. Standing at six-foot-three, 200 pounds, he is most effective below the hash marks where he can dictate play with his size, shot and vision. He also possesses a powerful release, making him a well-rounded threat. This season we will see whether or not Vilardi can fully recover from the injuries that have plagued his career thus far.

He can bury rebounds and has the hand-eye coordination to get deflections in front of the net as well. He also has plenty of experience playing for the National team at the Ivan Hlinka tournament, the U18, and the U17 levels. Hischier is a playmaker, with outstanding vision and passing ability. He has very good hockey sense, and anticipates his teammates movements in the offensive zone. Hischier has a very quick first step, excellent acceleration and agility, as well as great edgework.
This, along with quick hands, allow him to avoid defenders and make him very elusive when working the puck in the offensive zone. Hischier also has a very high work ethic, he never seems to stop working during a shift. The answer is Callan Foote. Foote scored eight goals and 36 points in 71 games as a WHL rookie, showing real offensive prowess. Foote is an excellent skater. He skates well in both directions, and solid pivots and edgework allow him to cover a lot of ice. Its more about battling in the corners and clearing the front of the net than throwing big open-ice hits though.
Foote has a hard slap shot which he keeps low and puts on net. He also has good poise with the puck on his stick, and the vision to quarterback things from the point on the power play. He topped that in his second year, putting up 19 goals and 71 points in just 57 games. The 71 points led the Chiefs in Scoring. He scored seven goals and 13 points in just seven games in the tournament. A late birthday, he is not eligible until the 2017 draft, when he will have just completed his third year in the WHL. Yamamoto has tremendous hands, he is a great stickhandler and can bury goals in tight to the goalie.
He also is very quick to loose pucks with great acceleration and a really quick first step. More a play maker than a goal scorer, he uses his quickness and stickhandling to open up passing lanes. Yamamoto can feather passes tape-to-tape to his linemates and has outstanding vision. He also put up 15 goals and 34 points in 37 games playing in the under 20 SuperElite league. A versatile player, Vesalainen has experience playing both wings. He has excellent size, and uses it to protect the puck along the boards and extend plays in the cycle. Gifted with a large wing-span, Vesalainen takes advantage of it to play keep-away with defenders.
A budding power forward, Vesalainen wins battles along the boards, and is not afraid to fight through checks to get to the front of the net. Vesalainen also has an excellent shot. His skating is surprisingly quick, and his stride long and fluid.
At the end of Round 3, they selected David Farrance, a superb two-way defenseman projected to go higher.
The Leafs bolstered their organizational depth on defense, adding an attractive mix of size and skating. In Round 2, they got 6-foot-6 rearguard Eemeli Rasanen, whom Seidel named as a potential steal. In Round 1, they added defenseman Timothy Liljegren at No. Their successful 2016-17 season left them with lower picks -- their first was winger Kailer Yamamoto at 22 -- but the Oilers managed to make solid selections.
His average skating and one-dimensional game have been exposed and the high-end puck skills are yet to shine through. More time in the AHL could be helpful. He has a good, quick wrist shot and passes the puck well enough, but his lack of foot speed holds him back from being a truly dynamic player. Another player in this class who has struggled with injuries, he missed all of 2018-19 due to a concussion. He played just 40 games in the AHL last year and really blossomed near the end of the season with 11 points in his last 13 games. At six-foot-two, 185-pounds, he could add some weight but has managed without it due to his smooth skating stride and four-way quickness.
He already looks like a powerplay anchor-type, but we could very well not have seen the best of Timmins due to the injury problems. He had a decent rookie season in the NHL, scoring 20 points in 56 games, but struggled to keep up with the increased pace of the league. He is most effective from mid-range, with a lethal wrist shot. He can skate and has good hands, but his small stature may hold him back from being more than a secondary scorer. He is an all-round rearguard with average offensive ability who carries his six-foot-four, 216-pound frame around very well. He is reliable defensively, able to keep up with quick forwards and break up play with his long reach or lay the body.
Should be a useful NHLer. He is a little undersized but is an above-average skater and a mobile defender. Offensively, he is efficient, letting the play develop in front of him before finding an outlet. He has held his own so far in the NHL this season. He does the majority of his work in the offensive zone, beating defenders before dishing it off to a teammate. He will have to really show he can pull off those plays in the NHL to move up this list.

He can push around anyone with 91 strength, 94 body checking, and can fly past the most fleet-footed defenseman with 91 acceleration, 91 speed, and 91 agility. By this point, Cechmanek is a pure puck-mover, boasting very high puck skills ratings but relatively low shooting ratings. His 94 deking, 95 hand-eye, 94 puck control, and 95 passing all make him the centrepiece of an offensive move, as do his 90 acceleration and 89 speed. The left-shot winger is reasonably fast, with 90 acceleration and 89 speed, and has good offensive awareness with a rating of 90. However, the point of playing Pavelski is to spot him open, pass him the puck, and then let his 95 slap shot accuracy, 94 slap shot power, 95 wrist shot accuracy, and 94 wrist shot power do the rest.

However, Patrick being limited to just 33 games in the most important year of his young career justifiably gave detractors a foundation to stand on. Make no mistake — the list of first overall picks who missed half a season from injury is both short and disconcerting. Nevertheless, a healthy Patrick is next to unstoppable, and his combination of power and skill from the center ice position is unmatched in this specific draft year. Casey Mittelstadt, the skilled Minnesota-raised center who bookended a dominant season with Eden Prairie High by crushing USHL competition to a tune of a league-best 1. Poor upper-body strength results at the recent combine notwithstanding , Mittelstadt is capable of logging massive minutes, shouldering top-line center responsibilities and producing no matter how much attention he gets from opposing coaches. Swiss star Nico Hischier of the Halifax Mooseheads in the Quebec League is both smart and skilled enough to go first overall, as he led all CHL rookies in scoring and carried a thin roster to the postseason. Playing center with a wiry frame is perfectly normal in major junior, but Hischier will need to fill out before competing and succeeding against the bigger pivots in the NHL.

Thomas is an excellent depth option who will be pushed up the lineup in St. Louis sooner rather than later. His lack of production up to this point is highly, highly concerning considering how much natural ability he has. He finally appeared to be up to full speed at the end of the year but remains a massive injury risk moving forward. Rasmussen is a big-bodied kid who is probably a depth option who can help on the PP. He should be in Florida full time at the start of next season. It may take another season or two but he has a very bright future. Foote should be just about ready to help Tampa Bay in a depth role.
