Indeed, in a purely cinematic sense, we were looking for the place where Elvis died. We found the Rocky Hill with relative ease — but climbing to the site of the fake bridge took some effort. Much of the filming took place near the top of the Rocky Hill. Even with the area more cleared-out then than it is today, it would have been a logistical challenge to haul movie gear up to the spot. The exact location where the fake bridge stood Needless to say, we did make it up that hill. The above photo shows the site where the mythic movie prop once rested, and where Elvis, in a jealous rage, orchestrated a violent standoff at the end of "Love Me Tender.
On the left is "Escort West," an early 1959 release that would have been filmed in 1958. The shot on the right is from the recent Bell Ranch excursion. It should be noted that a portion of the material supporting the main beam was also fake. Where the fake beam would be today This shot approximates where the movie prop would be positioned if it were still in place.
Jean-Marc is alone at the time and has sex with Steve. Later that night, Steve tries to change a light bulb and falls, causing his friends to jump to the conclusion that he tried to kill himself. Soon Phillipe too gets involved with Steve.
Their first was China Doll. The site of the Bell Ranch location shoot remained a mystery for decades until it was discovered on an expedition by film location researchers in early 2015. The researchers found the location by using information from "Escort West" and the first Elvis Presley movie, Love Me Tender, which filmed its climactic sequence at the same site, known as the "Rocky Hill.
The black and white photography has captured the stark beauty of the land and the music in keeping with the style of the movie, sober. Victor Mature as usual lends his dignified presence with little talk. We easterners normally disregard such shreaks as both annoyance and amusements.

Steve then proves to be a troubled character who is involved secretly with another man who has been diagnosed with HIV. Matters are complicated by Nathalie — who secretly loves Phillipe — and by his recently divorced mother.

Dimple Rock remains in place directly in front of the area where the fake cave was positioned. An intriguing footnote to the location discovery is the presence of two large "intruder rocks" in the midst of the setting.
The soldiers are not all incorruptible in a short sequence two try to steal the payroll. Adding to the complications is the fact that Mature, to protect his daughter and the one surviving sister, must join forces with the Union, though he himself had been a rebel Confederate. As I said, this could have been expanded more cinematically if the budget had been greater.
We could have seen flashbacks of what the lead characters had experienced during and immediately after the war. We also could have seen some more of the attack involving the natives, which mostly happens off-camera.
