Not even Darth Vader has glowing eyes! While the rest of the model was mostly another exercise in getting the shape right, designing the eyes and the surrounding area was the most fun for me! To get the menacing appearance of the original droids right I had to tilt down the front of the head -- like a bull lowering its head, ready to attack.

The mask opens to reveal a head piece with printing on both sides. And of course, you get the rocket booster effects on the feet. Released 3 years after the first version, this one adds extra printing to the entire Minifigure. The legs have some additional printing at the knees to give it a bit more of an interesting look, and the chest has a large section spreading from the Arc reactor to the shoulders. It has a cleaner look, and as such the Minifigure pares back the printing to keep things relatively sparse. The detailing we get is solid and accurate to the movie version we see in Avengers: Age of Ultron. This is another LEGO Minifigure where we get the usual transparent blue bricks as the rocket boosters. It has all the usual details and print applications covering it and even has some really nicely defined red and gold paneling down either side of the stomach.
The only issue we can see is that while the Iron Man in the movie has a fully exposed Arc reactor, the Minifigure has half a reactor. It is fairly accurate to the suit we see on screen. However, they add more gold highlights on the torso and leg pieces. Perhaps this is because they used earlier concept art to base their prints on, or perhaps they just wanted to make the Minifigure look a little more interesting.

It features a shocking yellow pauldron that represents the armors yellow paint applications. The color may be too bright and clean, but it gets the idea across well. The actual suit has arms that end in huge jackhammer-like endings. However, this Minifigure just goes with the yellow pauldrons at the top of regular gray arms. This pauldron piece can be slid onto the neck and sandwiched between the torso and head pieces.
The usual vibrant reds are replaced with an extremely dark almost black blue. This gives the gold printing an extra effective pop! Again, this can be quickly and easily swapped out with the printed face piece included in the 76125 Iron Man Hall of Armor set. The details in the printing are good, and they included plenty of tiny little parts to keep things interesting. At all! The XLII suit has a much more prominent gold coloring, especially on the legs. We actually got a Minifigure that is primarily red with a few gold highlights.
