It is most notable for being the first film in which Godzilla fights another monster though neither is portrayed as heroic , but it so closely mirrors its predecessor aside from that while tossing genuine emotional heft to the wayside , that you almost begin to understand why the producers of the American version thought audiences might actually buy into the idea of the titular monster not being Godzilla. Of course, anyone with half a brain knows that the monster that looks and acts exactly like Godzilla is Godzilla. The Japanese version posits that Godzilla truly died at the end of the first film, with this new monster being part of the same species and also awakened by hydrogen bomb testing. So there you go — meet the new Godzilla, same as the old Godzilla. Sequel problem solved.

Named after the biblical Legion demon, the kaiju from outer space almost took out Gamera early on in the movie by having its bug children the size of Volkswagen Beetles climb all over the turtle and cover him like a suit made from scratchy Christmas-sweater yarn. We tend to not talk about that movie a lot. Eventually, Mother Legion was able to spawn flying bug soldiers from her body, in addition to burrowing underground, creating electro barriers, and shooting lasers. She basically won the battle against Gamera by just showing up. But then the humans got involved and confused the flying bug swarm with radio signals. Frankenstein Frankenstein vs. Wisdom is knowing that since the creature was Dr. Japanese sci-fi trivia is knowing that in the 1965 movie Frankenstein vs.
As for the plot, while an inventor and his family struggle to raise a giant monster named Daigoro, another giant monster, Goliath, rises from the ocean after a meteor strike. This "friend to children" trope had already been done by Gamera, so Daigoro was a rip-off of a rip-off. No wonder even die-hard kaiju fans have probably missed this bizarre monstrosity. In between came the much less popular Godzilla rip-off, Varan the Unbelievable. What makes Varan unbelievable? So points to Toho for originality there. Why the gap? While neither version is "good," the American version took an A-list production in Japan and turned it into your typical "nuclear monster run amok" B-movie.
Gorgo is pretty great Gorgo — a 1961 co-production between the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United States — is one of the best Godzilla rip-offs... Godzilla is basically a bipedal T-rex with Stegosaurus spikes; Gorgo is a bipedal T-rex with a crocodile-like "shell. Rather than being awakened by nuclear weapons, like virtually every other giant monster in the 1950s and 1960s, Gorgo is a ticked-off mom who attacks London after her baby is kidnapped, a storyline Jaws 3-D pretty much "borrowed" verbatim in 1983. Spoiler alert — Gorgo survives at the end, perhaps to set up future Gorgo vs. Either way, Gorgo was a one-and-done story, and it was a pretty good one at that. The storyline should sound familiar — a long-dormant dinosaur who can shoot nuclear breath attacks a city after being awakened by atomic tests in the ocean. However, The Giant Behemoth is unique in the kaiju genre, as the titular behemoth was brought to life not by a man in a suit but the far more painstaking and time-consuming stop-motion animation process. We assume the filming experience was a little better on Galgameth, though the film does tell a similar story, trading feudal Korea for the fictional medieval kingdom of Donnegold.
The reason this film counts as a Godzilla rip-off and not just your run-of-the-mill medieval fantasy is Galgameth is clearly based on Godzilla, as he looks less like the ancient dragons of lore and more like, well, the King of the Monsters. Is Godzilla ripping off The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms?

Eye Scream : Her first battle with Mechagodzilla would have put out one of her eyes. After becoming White Rodan her eye would have been healed. Interspecies Adoption : She and her mate cared for the egg and she still protected it after it hatched into a baby Godzilla. This is despite the fact that it would have been established that Godzillasauruses and Pteranodons were natural enemies. Mama Bear : Would have been very protective of the Godzillasaurus egg in her nest and just as protective of Godzilla Jr. Here is a list of the many versions they would have used and the many forms he would have taken. Later drafts of the script made it so that Bakan would be healed of any injuries when he transitioned between forms and added a fourth form: the totemic Demon Beast.
While the Demon Beast would be strong enough to initially beat Godzilla, Bakan would soon find himself trapped in this form and unable to heal from his injuries allowing Godzilla to easily defeat Bakan in round 2. While this form was strong enough to knock Godzilla down, it also suffered Shapeshifter Mode Lock and could no longer heal any damage by shape shifting, so when Godzilla gets back up Bakan quickly loses the advantage. Morphic Resonance : Descriptions of the different forms in the script indicate that when Bakan was in one of his three forms vestigial structures resembling the other two would be present on his body. Our Dragons Are Different : One of his main forms is a dragon-like monster. His subsequent scrapped appearances intended to carry over this element, as his intended appearances in "Mothra vs. Bagan" would describe him as a demonic dragon-like god. Shapeshifter Mashup : In the scrapped draft of The Return of Godzilla, his final form was an amalgamation of his previous forms. In the final battle, Bagan assumed a final form, combining traits of all three, but this left it unable to change again.
Mothra vs. Bagan First Version Brought back for what was intended to be the first Mothra film of the Heisei Era, where he was first given the now official name Bagan. Initially retaining the shapeshifting aspect of from the 1980s albeit with some alterations: the Sacred Monkey Beast was replaced with the Spirit God Beast, the Sacred Dragon and Water Beasts were combined into the Dragon God Beast and the new Demon God Beast was added as the third form. But eventually, the shapeshifting aspect was abandoned in favor of a singular monsterous form. Cruel Elephant : The most common design for the Spirit God Beast was an upright standing elephant like creature. Bagan Second Version After abandoning the shapeshifter concept for Bagan, several new designs were created and workshopped for a new monoformed Bagan. Bagan would have attacked Calcutta before being confronted a Mothra Imago and Larva, ending with the Larva cocooning him in silk allowing the mortally wounded Imago to carry him out to sea and seal him away in the ocean. He was intended to return in the third Heisei Godzilla movie, where in addition to battling Godzilla, it would have been revealed that he was of alien origin and responsible for the destruction of the Nazca civilization.
Bagan" drafts. Bagan, this trope is invoked as they show his B Design seemingly growing wings made of energy from his back. Prehistoric Monster : In the scrapped Mothra vs. Averted in the intended Godzilla vs. Biollante sequel where he would have been revealed to have come from space. The plans for this movie fell through after concerns arose about Mechani-Kong being too similar to King Kong to use. Suspiciously Similar Substitute : The plan was to use him to avoid a dispute with Universal over the legal rights to King Kong. Unfortunately Universal caught them in the act, and planned to sue accordingly. Anguirus Hound A more nimble breed of Anguirus with a split carapace.
