The last third of the book finds Farmer on a global tour, interviewing actors, actresses and film crew, and being a guest at various festivals.
Priest does well again to create suspense out of what could easily be mundanity, but Airside is less of a mystery and more a thoughtful story of descriptive observation of airport lounges, international air travel and the human condition. Readers expecting easy solutions and everything tied up at the end may be disappointed, but for me much of the enjoyment in reading a Christopher Priest novel is seeing how the often disparate elements eventually interact, and Airside does not disappoint in that respect. It is a book where the journey is the important thing, not the destination, which seems somewhat appropriate for a book about air travel! In that respect, it is another success.

I would politely decline and then pitch them on Potato-Man or Spud-Boy or whatever. So I got a call from DC, and they wanted to talk to me about Cyborg. I gave them the standard stump speech. I used to be a guy who would write Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Batman. Why am I no longer qualified to write those characters? How did I get typecast from writing Black Panther of all things, when that series was never really about Black Panther.
It was about the white guy, about Ross. It was narrated through his voice, and I thought I wrote a very well-constructed white character. Why are you now pigeonholing me as a guy who can only write black characters? I later found out that Marvel and, to a lesser extent, DC moved into a trend where they were no longer hiring writers—they were casting writers. A writer writes. Tom Clancy, rest his soul, could write anything. I was really polite about it and told DC thank you for calling, blah, blah, blah. Then a day or two later I got another call from DC, and they asked me about Deathstroke. I left comics because they stopped offering me anything but black characters.
Now, ironically, both Marvel and DC and some of the independents, are talking about a whole range of things. Do you think most other writers of color in comics are still facing that same problem? I would imagine so. I really felt that for many years when people picked up the phone to call me the first thing they thought was "black," and my suspicions were confirmed. I resented that.

Крепко подумала, вспомнив все малейшие особенности мира, описанные автором. И пришла к неутешительным выводам. Всё существование города, растянувшееся на два века, - ни что иное, как чудо из чудес параллель с нашей жизнью во Вселенной не чуете? И вот, когда впереди замаячил океан, горожане столкнулись с непосильной, невозможной задачей его преодоления. Конечно, когда человек оказывается наедине с экзистенциальным ужасом, ему намного проще обвинить кого-нибудь в "неправильных" взглядах на жизнь и продолжать верить в чистое-светлое, которое сам же себе и придумал.
Реальность горожан, в которой они существуют, - это не когнитивное искажение восприятия, как считает та самая Элизабет из концовки книги, взявшая на себя моральное право учить жизни и науке, по её мнению, отсталых и заблуждающихся.
