Умело чередовал блестящие тактические умения и внимание к деталям, все знали его как разностороннего шахматиста.
Качественная дебютная подготовка и виртуозное разыгрывание окончаний — вот главные козыри Каруаны. Также его всегда отличала максимальная концентрация на протяжении всей партии и огромное трудолюбие.

Над молодым талантом «берет шефство» гроссмейстер Александр Чернин. В этом же году Каруана становится гроссмейстером. Ценную помощь в становлении Фабиано, как шахматиста, оказали гроссмейстеры Юрий Разуваев, Александр Белявский. Несколько последних лет постоянным тренер Каруаны - Владимир Чучелов, о котором шахматист отзывается очень лестно: Последние два года, что мы вместе с Чучеловым, стали настоящим прорывом для меня, и я очень благодарен своему тренеру. Считаю его одним из лучших шахматных тренеров в мире, а для меня лично так Владимир — просто лучший Достижения в шахматах Наивысшим достижением пока считается победа в турнире высшей категории в 2014г.
Турнир проходил в Сент-Луисе. На фото начало турнира и партия с Накамурой. Причем Фабиано выиграл сем первых партий на старте. Общий результат 8. Поле этой победы рейтинг ЭЛО Каруаны достиг космического значения в 2835 пунктов.
Чемпион Соединенных штатов 2016 года. Двукратный чемпион Италии. Фабиано выиграл несколько крупных международных турниров в разные годы.
В 2007 году семья вновь переехала — на этот раз в Будапешт , где он занимался с Александром Черниным. Ему помогали такие известные гроссмейстеры, как Александр Белявский и Юрий Разуваев.
