Пока в жилищах новорожденных нет грунта, так как песок может попасть им в корм и тем самым нанести ущерб здоровью. В контейнерах сохраняют повышенную влажность до 90 процентов , чтобы у тайпанов легче проходила линька.
Если же пересушить воздух, фрагменты чешуи могут попасть змеям в глаза и привести к потере зрения. С момента появления на свет тайпаны Маккоя принимают ту же пищу, что и взрослые особи. Внутриматериковых тайпанов можно по праву считать малоежками. В Московском зоопарке они обычно питаются раз в неделю, а в «зимний» период не едят вообще.
